To meet customer demand for the highest quality manufactured parts, The Arthur G. Russell Co. (AGR) makes use of advanced machine vision (MV) inspection for product checks and measurements that are 40 times more precise and repeatable than those made manually at accuracies of ±0.001 in.

A MV system has two primary elements:
1) A computer that serves as the machine-vision engine and connects to a camera.
2) Software that processes and analyzes images for defects, measurements and locations.

A MV system achieves 100 percent inspection automatically and provides feedback to support continuous quality improvement for parts produced at rates of hundreds of thousands of parts an hour. MV is important for applications in which human vision is inadequate due to fatigue or visual acuity, where speed is required or where substantial cost reduction is obtained through the reduction of direct labor and/or improved product quality.

The Arthur G. Russell Co. teams with AVTEX, a vision specialist who has successfully integrated 100’s of precision camera systems since 1995 and offers design, implementation, support and training services. Many AGR and AVTEX turn-key solutions utilize In-Sight and Checkpoint II systems from Cognex, a leading MV technology provider.
